In the mean time, after digging a little in the logs, and with a little
hand holding from Scott at Declude I think that I found the culprit: I
had IMail AV and Symantec corporate AV "on-access" scanner installed. I
guess they were stepping on each others toes ;-).

I'll do a little more digging and as soon as I have an explanation I
will post it.
