Yes.

That's not so. All user settings are stored in ODBC if you choose that
option.

Though  it  can  host still more LDAP-only settings if you want it to,
IMail's  LDAP  server  is by default a slave to the ODBC settings, not
necessary for operation, and is not in very wide use, AFAIK.

Yes, you can add/modify/delete directly in the back end from ASP, etc.

Have  you  set  up  the ODBC module in your eval, per the manual? This
would seem to be a necessary step in your process.
