Listen to the rest of the posts. Win ME is not a good product. We have more support issues here with ME users than Win95. If you must upgrade, go to Win98SE unless you want to replace your hardware, then I would go with XP Pro. One problem you have with ME and XP Home is no domain networking. As for Security issues, W95 has holes and MS is no longer making updates for it.
