I had seen this error a couple of times in the Ipswitch IMail Training classes when we use the DOS telnet (and another Telnet client) and I always attributed it to some 'unknown' character being sent (probably a trailing space, sent by the user), because I could never see exactly what was sent and in my own experience (hundreds, maybe thousands, of telnet sessions to IMail servers), had rarely, if ever, seen the 502 error.
So, how do you know there were control codes sent (did you use a sniffer)? Is there any way to tell what codes telnet will send in that first line (some configuration, maybe?)? Just had the thought of sending a blank line as first line, to see what that might do... Thanks for your help!
