I've had the same problem since we first set up webmail. The https://
worked, but the plain http:// did not. Imail was the only thing installed
on the server, so nothing else was using the port. I originally changed the
default port to 80 and it did not work, so I changed it back to the default
and it still didn't work. I didn't stress about it too much, though,
because the https:// was working and was more secure so that is what we have
all our webmail users on.
I never did figure out why the other wasn't working, though. Even now it
still doesn't work. I get:
"Connection Error!
The webmail server is reporting an invalid HTTP header or connection type.
Please
contact your system administrator."
Although I used to just get the dns error page. This is with port set to 80
and force ssl off. You can see my webmail settings at

http://mail.taisweb.net and https://mail.taisweb.net.

Do you have a DNS record for your mail server? have you tried
http://Mail-Server-IP-Address:8383 ?
