Im in a rural area ( customers can not even get dsl. Some customers still have party lines out here ) im looking to assess the cost of deploying a wireless solution. Ive looked at several products and several look great on paper. I would like to try to get a "field use report" for alverion, proxim, and motorola canopy systems. Input from anyone who had experience deploying / administering / supporting these systems would be appreciated.
I'm not versed in proxim or motorola, but I'm very well versed in Alvarion. We looked at proxim and motorola among others, and felt that from a security stand point, it doesn't get any better than Alvarion. Alvarion uses a Frequency Hopping Spread Spectrum (FHSS) instead of the Direct Sequence Spread Spectrum (DSSS) technology that the other guys use (which is very trivial to capture.) Alvarion also has implemented radius authentication in their CPE. Which is worth it's weight in gold if you get many customers.
I also have an awesome vendor. They are Wireless Connections. Their web site is www.wirelessconnections.net. I don't believe there's anyone out their that has a better staff than Wireless Connections.
I'd be more than happy to discuss them with you off-list if interest. Please contact me either via phone at 1-888-962-3770 or email at russu(at)rp-l.com.
Thanks,
Russ
