Aren't there identifiers or tags of some sort that state where the messages end and begin, and how many messages are in the MBX file?
Yes, they are in the standard Unix mailbox format. Lines beginning with "From <" separate E-mails from one another.
Also what is the UID file?
It is an index file, in a proprietary Ipswitch format. You probably won't need it, but if you do, you can probably figure out the important parts fairly easily.
