Yes sending mail to the mailbox is good for some things, but what I am interested in is the ability to move messages back / forth between folders (some private, some public) within a mail client. It is possible to move messages from the shared (read only) folders to private folders (i.e. within a given mail account) but not the other way. If I explain our intended use of this facility, it might be clearer... We have a list of inbound requests for information about our firm etc. This grows slowly as people write in, and currently the list is farmed out to people to answer the questions by someone manually forwarding mail from the account the messages arrive in. We've hooked up a processing rule that diverts appropriate messages to a folder within the public folder stack. What we would like to do now is two things:
1) for people to be able to 'grab' messages from the folder to answer if they have time (possible currently with read access - but hard to show others what message you have got)
2) to put the message back into an 'answered' folder once the message required has been sent (this could be achieved by bcc-ing the public folder in the reply, and including the request in the sent reply) - but probably best if the answered messages are 'removed' from the folder they started in too.
Clearly one option would be to simply have everyone create a new account (called 'public') in their mail client and log in as the user concurrently with their normal mail session. But having got so close to solving this via public folders, I am interested in seeing if it is possible to do that way too...
I'd be interested in views about what best next step is ...
