I don't know that letting users know about their provider would do much
good. I've argued with various providers to no end over this.

I had a customer I had to setup two mail servers for to get around
Earthlink's policy of not allowing users to send mail through any SMTP
server but an Earthlink server. The customer has an Earthlink dialup for
their remote sales people and these remotes could not send mail through the
company mail server because the server blocks relaying for everyone except
those with company domain addresses, which then must authenticate.
Earthlink blocked SMTP traffic to the company server from these users. This
was ok, except when they tried to send mail to other company employees, the
company mail server wanted them to authenticate, which could not happen
because the email was being relayed by the Earthlink server.

I had more than one fight with Earthlink over this and was ultimately told
this was the way it is and I could do nothing about it. Well, a second
server listening on a different port used by only the remote users solved
that issue. But, this still should not happen and providers should have a
system of validation where legit customers that have a true need to send
through their own servers can do so.

Bottom line is that providers stupidly want to protect themselves at the
expense of customers. They bank on thinking that the majority of their
customers are regular old dumb residential types that won't know the
difference, and unfortunately they are right. But, legit businesses are
treated the same way unless they generate enough revenue that the ISP will
make exceptions for them.

Oh well, I guess it is inevitable that the wants and whines of those
lemmings that demand idiotic things such as 'Do Not Call' and 'Do Not Spam'
lists will prevail as long as the same lemmings are running things.
