On a side note: There seems to be an inverse correlation between the volume of of messages an employee receives and how often they automatically check for them. The fewer messages, the more often they check for them. ;o) Any messages now? No. Any messages now? No. Any messages now? No. ad inf.

I've had this happen on my network with Outlook, in every case it was caused by the session being interrupted. A lot of my users have it set to check for mail every 5 minutes, if the download takes longer than 5 minutes it will again check for mail, interrupting the download, and sometimes causing dupes. Also it is caused when they double-click send/receive. It could be something similar with Eudora, perhaps upping the amount of time between when it checks for email might help. I had one guy with it set to 1 minutes between checks and well, that didn't help.

You have probably already ruled this out but if a pop3 download does complete then the emails will not be marked for deletion on the mail server and will then be redownloaded the next time the user connects.
Or are you talking about when the users have elected to keep a copy of all the data on the server?

Some of my users are complaining that they sometimes get duplicate downloads of their messages. It's as though IMail forgets when the last time the user downloaded and gives them everything in the main.mbx. Sometimes this will happen several times in a week or two.
This is a corporate mail server. All employees use Eudora, so I cannot tell if the problem would affect any other mail client.
The Eudora community is pointing their fingers at IMail.
Any suggestions? IMail 604 on WinNT4SP6.
