[IMail Forum] IMAP and Outlook 2002

I have tried a few times over the past couple of years to get IMAP running for our users.  Each time I try to test, I end up abandoning it because it seems to be so unreliable.   All my users are using Windows XP and Outlook 2002, connecting to Imail 8.04 on Windows 2000 Server (dual 2200’s, 1GB RAM), w/ Declude JM and Virus.  The problems I have experienced with IMAP are as follows:   Frequent hangs:  Frequently, Outlook will hang when I attempt to switch to another email or email folder.  It will hang for anywhere between 10 seconds to a couple of minutes.   Occasional freezes:  Sometimes it just won’t un-hang (I have even left it overnight before).  When this happens I have to end task on Outlook.   Unreliable message sorting:  I have several folders and I use Outlook’s views to do things like group messages by conversation.  When doing this, I sort the threads descending, and the conversations ascending.  This puts the newest threads at the top and the oldest message within that thread first so I can read them in order.  But when using IMAP, no matter which way the ‘sort arrow’ is pointing, new messages and threads show up somewhere in the middle.  And as soon as I click on it, it jumps to the top so that I have to scroll back up to read it.  Then I have to scroll back down to get the next message, click, pop, scroll back up, etc…  This is just an example of the types of problems it presents with sorting.   Can’t search:  I can’t search through unread messages (I know this is because only the header has been dl’ed from the server, but it is still very inconvenient).   Frequent Disconnects:  I get frequent “Your IMAP server has closed the connection” messages.   We are coming to a place where we really need to use IMAP in our organization because we have a lot of agents working from home.  Does anyone else experience these problems with IMAIL IMAP?  How about other IMAP implementations?  Am I just configuring something wrong in Outlook?  What can I do to troubleshoot this?  Or is this just normal with IMAP?   Dan Horne, CCNA Web Services Administrator TAIS Web Wilcox World Travel & Tours [EMAIL PROTECTED]   ---------------------------------------------------- CONFIDENTIALITY NOTICE: This email message, including any attachments, is for the sole use of the intended recipient(s) and may contain confidential and privileged information.
