When I change it to work that way will I need to change my PTR record to comply with reverse DNS issues?
No.
Switching the official domain name and host alias(es) in IMail may cause the HELO/EHLO and/or SMTP greeting to change, but just so long as the IP that IMail is sending from has a PTR record (and the PTR record points back to the IP of the server), you should be fine.
There are some people who try to match the HELO/EHLO name with the PTR record, but if they do so, they are either using a weighted system of some sort, or if they block just on that, they don't mind not getting your mail (as in even if you jump through hoops to get your mail to them, there is a good chance that they will still block it).
