Is anyone aware of NT/2k firewall software that has either integrated dnsrbl support or has a plug architecture that would allow the addition of that support?
First, I should correct you here -- it's DNSBL, not DNSRBL. The reason I've need to correct you on that is because the term used to be RBL ("Realtime Blacklist List"), but that's a trademark of MAPS, so it shouldn't be used generically. The term changed to DNSBL ("DNS Blacklist", "DNS Blocklist", "DNS Blocking List", etc. -- I'm not aware of an "official" expansion of the acronym), specifically to avoid the issue of using the trademark. So for legal reasons, it shouldn't be DNSRBL. Also, for those that are reading this, a related issue is that the stuff we're all trying to block is "spam", not "SPAM" (SPAM is a trademark of Hormel, and they don't mind the term "spam", but they do mind people using "SPAM" -- any anti-spam company that uses the term "SPAM" (all capitals) should be avoided, as they are probably clueless about spam).
I'm not looking for a the standard anti-spam software that is out there that does phrase filtering, etc. Just a firewall that intercepts the incoming packets and compares the IP against a dnsrbl. Anything like that exist?
Yes, although unfortunately I'm not sure who makes them. Nor am I aware whether these firewalls handle the situation properly as firewalls (blocking any IP that tries to connect to port 25, if the IP is listed in one of the blacklists), or whether they just hacked in anti-spam software somehow (which would be more elaborate, but not what you are looking for).
One caveat, though -- when you find one, be careful that it only affects incoming connections to port 25, so that people won't be blocked from other services.
