I've also blown away user-profiles with AdAware. Usually it's ok, but if the user has installed an application which relies on spyware, like Weatherbug or something along those lines (note: I am not exactly sure which application caused the failure when removed by AdAware, I'm just using Weatherbug as an example) there is a slight chance it will blow away the registry in the profile, resulting in an instant log-off when you try to log in to the profile. Other than that, I normally run both Spybot S&D and Ad Aware on my personal computer as there are some things that Spybot catches which Ad Aware does not. I know that Spybot is free, and can be configured to automatically update, scan, and delete on boot up. AdAware offers similar functionality in a pay version. The only catch there is that Spybot is a bit of a resource hog when it runs, so on the computers I have configured to run Spybot automatically, I also boot them via Wake On LAN about an hour before the user gets to work, that way the scan is over and they can just get to work. Also, technically you're not supposed to use the free version in an business environment...another reason I mainly use Spybot at my office.
