There is another issue that can arise here when the ISP mail server is used.
I had this problem with one of my customers that uses EarthLink for the traveling sales folks. Using EarthLink SMTP worked great, as long as they were not trying to send an email to another domain user in the company. What happened here was that the mail server (Mercur in this case) saw that everyone had to authenticate to relay mail. When the email came via EarthLink to other domain users, the mail server would see the from address and know it came from a domain user that was supposed to authenticate. Well, the user obviously could not authenticate. I don't know if this problem was specific to Mercur or not, so I'm not sure if IMail would behave the same way because I've haven't yet had an IMail customer that was potentially in the same boat. What I did to get around this was to setup a second mail server with SMTP set to a different port that relayed the mail to the main server. The outside users than changed the port in their mail client and used this second mail server for all of their outbound mail. Still working quite nicely. ----- Original Message ----- From: "imail " <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Sent: Monday, January 26, 2004 13:51 Subject: [IMail Forum] Outlook Express Issue > Hello All, > > I am out on the road working, and have just signed up with "Earthlink" for a dialup account in the motel's. > > I have my outlook account setup per-normal. > [] My server requires authentication. > > > This is the error message that I am receiving when sending out. > E-mails.
