Thanks for the help. I will check the Soho 6 manual again.

I managed to set up the POP3 and SMTP because these were standard services. I just got a little lost with the custom services part on the firewall.

If the need arrises, may I email you off list to ask more specific questions?

Thanks again..

Steve, I just noticed that you also want to do Web Messaging, so you'll need to setup a custom service in the firewall for that.  The default port for this is TCP 8383.

If the manual you have is the same as mine, Chapter 6, pages 61-64 tells you how to forward ports in the Soho 6 (they call it filtering).  If not, what you are looking for in the manual you have is the chapter on Configuring the Firewall Settings, and then Filtering Incoming.

Common services are already setup, so all you should need to do is pick POP, SMTP and IMAP (if necessary) and specify the internal address of the IMail server.

The IP address you would use for your mail host in DNS would be the WAN address of the firewall, providing you have a basic setup where the firewall is doing NAT and the internal machines have something like 192.168.x.x for addresses.  The firewall WAN IP will typically be a static address assigned by the ISP.  You would then have the ISP setup the reverse lookup for the MX.  If you have a dynamically assigned IP from the ISP, things get more interesting and there are some gotcha's that need to be dealt with.

This all assumes you have the run-of-the-mill basic network setup.  If you are running your own DNS servers internally, there is a little more to it and I would need to start finding out exactly how your network is configured.

What I need explaining is how to correctly configure a firewall to open the required email ports. I already have the list of ports that Imail uses, I just need to know how to configure the Firewall properly.

I am hoping somebody out there is familiar with Wathguard products as well as Imail.

Thanks

I am sure somebody can answer this.

I have successfully set up an Imail express server behind our firewall and it appears to be working fine thanks to help from this forum.

We are currently using just smtp and pop3 but I now want to enable web messaging and IMAP etc but realise I need open the required ports on the firewall.

This is all new to me so can anybody explain whats important?  We are a very small company and we are running a watchguard soho 6. It requires custom incoming and outgoing rules to be configured but I am not sure how to do this correctly.

Thanks
