I am curious.. One time I researched Sophos and their licensing was based on
number of mailboxes. Is that still correct?
Our Sophos license is based on "nodes", where a node is a workstation or server, and is OS agnostic. 2 of my "nodes" are Netware servers, 3 or 4 are Windows servers, the other are a mix of Win98, Win2K and WinXP clients. When we purchased Delcude, I explicitly called Sophos and asked what the implications were of running it on the mail server, and was told that as long as I had a node license for that server, I was covered. I called to ask, because McAfee, depending on who you talked to (sales tech support), wanted a license for every mail box AND a license for all the network users, even if they weren't using McAfee at the desktop.
I'm not an ISP, though, so every user on my network was licensed anyway, and maybe to Sophos user = mailbox. In either case, I think it's worth it for you to ask again. As I said, Sophos AV is one of my favorite products simply because it just works.
