We run proxy side antivirus and client antivirus. In our case the SMTPD
service still shows as running in the services window and our internal mail
still moves however external mail can not come in but can send.

I've seen a few of you talking about this issue with SMTP/SMTPD stopping...I
half wonder...any chance that you have that new virus, W32/Netsky.B and
W32/Netsky.C. I've also seen mention of another Worm/Virus that also uses
it's on SMTP service: W32/Israz-B. Here's are links with info on these:
http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/vinfodb.html#threat_list and
http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/[EMAIL PROTECTED]

They both have their own SMTP engine for replication purposes...and we know
that if there are any other SMTP services loaded on your IMail server they
will conflict with IMail server...and cause the service to stop... We've
never seen the problem ourselves....but this non-resolution of your issues
has got me wondering....

Greg,

We have a similar issue with SMTPD. Our external mail will completely drop
off until I restart the SMTPD service at which point it immediately picks up
again. Our internal mail however is fine. I have not been able to work it
out even with several calls to Ipswitch and our proxy server people.

Hi Everyone

We started noticing some lag in our mail servers and when I checked it out
and there were 1600+ messages in the queue. I restarted all of the
services, the queue started going down, and the machine was back to normal
operation (30 in the queue) in 15 minutes.

This seems to be relatively common thing for us, check the queue, if it's
over a few hundred, restart the services, and it's back to normal. Anyone
got any ideas?

I downloaded the log and from 11:53 till 14:32 my mail server I noticed
there is not a single rdeliver, but there are a whole lot of MX connect
fails.

Here are two examples:
