I just noticed that if you telnet to my mail server you get...

but if I do it from inside the firewall I get...
220 packardtransport.com01packardlogistics.com X1 helo 250 hello mail.packardtransport.com
has anyone seen this before?
That's because the CISCO firewall is broken. It takes the SMTP greeting, and tries hiding it, but it doesn't do it properly (only hiding part of what it is supposed to, and hiding parts that it should not). If you disable the "fixup protocol", it will fix it.
