I am going to be doing some maintenance on DNS records and moving some of the records to a new server. As long as I'm doing this, I am also planning to phase out a few old mx hostnames.
I am hoping to write a simple script that will allow me to visually validate the mx record (and the A as long as I'm at it) for each domain.
I was planning on using a simple dos bat file or windows compatible perl script to look up the records and post them to a text file. I was thinking that I could just query the old dns server to get its results and then query the new dns server and post them one line under another in a text file.
I was hoping to have an output such as:
domain.com old MX: test.domain.com domain.com new MX: testnew.domain.com domain.com old A: 1.1.1.1 domain.com new A: 1.1.1.1
domain1.com old MX: test.domain1.com domain1.com new MX: testnew.domain1.com domain1.com old A: 2.1.1.1 domain1.com new A: 2.1.1.1
Does anyone have any suggestions on how I might be able to accomplish this? Or, is there a similar script already out there?
