I have the same symptoms on my 8.10 box. With the errors in the event log "The description for Event ID ( 1281 ) in Source ( OpenLDAP-slapd ) cannot be found" also "The description for Event ID ( 1280 ) over and over again. I tried resyncing re-initing reloading etc.. no luck. Admin is slow as molasses, the web login takes about 2 minutes to log you in. Something is very wrong with ldap.
