Does anyone know how the que process e-mail?

I have the que set to attempt delivery 10 times, and then send an error
message. For out going mail this setting seems to be working ok. For
incoming mail, however, I am noticing problems.

If I send e-mail to a username that does not exist on my server, for example
[EMAIL PROTECTED] the e-mail shows up in the que and the que
attempts to deliver this e-mail 10 times to the bogus address. This occurs
for deleted accounts which is not a huge problem.

The big problem is spammers sending out bulk e-mails with fake addresses.
10 attempts for 5 bogus e-mail addresses on an e-mail times 50 spam e-mails
tends to multiply into a lot of mail bogging down the que.

I am using the spam filters, but don't want to be completely restrictive as
I don't want my customers to miss e-mail. So some spam is bound to get past
the filter.

Does anyone know a way to completely reject bogus e-mail user addresses not
located on our I-mail server without having them processed in the que?

Thanks,
