we have been filterering all outbound smpt (exept from our 2 servers) for
years.
we have about 1000 Dial up users, and 100 large corporates wireless accounts
(average 20 user per account).
never had a problem.

I tried that comment a little while back. Someone thought that would
violate a clients civil rights :). They claimed that the management of
an ACL to permit valid SMTP hosts would be oppressive. I say that's
bull. It wouldn't come close to the crap they have to deal with now in
the form of complaints, wasted bandwidth, etc.

Regards,

Jason

A little off topic but why don't ISP's start blocking SMTP from their
core routers. In that block all smtp traffic outbound that isn't from
their mail servers. This seems to be a solution.
