I think hotmail lists 4 different mx records.
for each mx record I see 4 different ip address.
I did telnet to the different ip addresses and found some that worked.
Then I added hotmail.com in my dns server.
added the mx records and A records for working servers.
 
My mail logs shows that my server is trying to send to the first server for each mx record and those fails.
Setting up my own dns record for hotmail fixed this.

We are having the same problem with hotmail and msn.
 
I did add hotmail.com to my dns server and added records for working mail servers.
 
I know that this seems to be a pretty common problem.

Since Thursday, our users (or, at least some of our users) have been unable to send email to hotmail and msn users.  I'm trying to track down the problem.  Just curious if anyone else has reports of this problem.
 
Appears that DNS is okay.
Tracert last hop is a Sprint router (this mail server is on a Sprint T1) and I have Sprint looking at routing.
The same problem occurs sent through an in-house Exchange server and our Imail server (using different DNS servers but both connected to Sprint T1).
 
If anyone has seen the same problem or has any other suggestions on what I might check I'd appreciate hearing it.
