This is a project that started at AT&T Labs, and is simple, effective, and
just plain works.  The only feature is doesn't have is file transfer.

It should be noted, however (since the original poster asked) that VNC requires SSL tunnelling (such as http://www.stunnel.org ) in order for the data to be secure.


Without SSL, the password is secure (so a hacker couldn't log on to the server if they intercepted the communications), but the data is not. That means that if a hacker had the appropriate tools (they may not even exist), and had access to the data stream, they could see whatever you see, and see whatever you type. So without SSL, some care is needed if using VNC. I must say, though, that VNC is very nice.
