I'm  not aware of anything that like the comprehensive pay/proprietary
DBs that ship with the Net Nanny-type products.

However, here's an idea: research the inexpensive desktop products and
see  if any offer per-category redirects, where the page displayed for
a  blocked  site is "This page has been blocked for being in <category
name>."  (Enterprise content scanners such as eSafe can do this, but I
don't  know  about the desktop ones.) You could then just send an HTTP
request via WGET and parse the response stream for your category.
