Running IMail 8.05 with HF03
I originally posted this problem to the list on May 23rd but it was quickly subverted
by a flame war and, consequently, never answered. Since that time, I have gathered
more information which may be beneficial to others.
We host a number of lists on our mail server and some list members have been
complaining that when they reply to a list message, it gets rejected by the mail
server. Basically, what is happening is that the message 'Reply-To:' address is
different for various list recipients (see the 'Reply-To:' lines in the headers below):
[good header]

I sent a message to all the members of each list on our mail server requesting that
they click on their 'Reply' button and send me what appeared in the 'To:' address box
of their mail client. All users indicated that they got the correct 'Reply-To:'
address except those customers of Roadrunner (correct 'Reply-To:' addresses were
received by users of AOL, Cox, SBC, Yahoo, et al).
It appears that Roadrunner is manipulating the message header and replacing the
customer's list domain name with our mail server's Host Name (ns3.fastwave.net). The
problem is that those lists do not exist under our Host Name, and the reply to list
messages get bounced back to the sender with the error message 'user unknown'.
When I first came across this problem, I thought the IMail product was in error and
reported it to Ipswitch (I initially thought the IMail server was sending the wrong
'Reply-To:' address). Now, I am convinced that Roadrunner is the problem and would
like to report this to them. I seem to recall that someone on this list had direct
contact information for Roadrunner and was wondering if that person wouldn't mind
sending it to me.
Also, before I contact Roadrunner, it would be nice if someone else could verify this
problem with a list on their mail server.
Or, I could be all wrong about this and, hopefully, will be set straight as how to
correct this situation. In any case, I hope this helps other IMail admins running list
services.
Best regards!
