This would be fine. Would it be better if the one static Ip address matched the primary domain name as in the DNS Records?

You don't need to create a virtual domain at all for your old domain as long as all the users are the same. In IAdmin on your main screen for the static ip domain there is a spot for a comma delimited list of host aliases (domains).
