I don't know if this is of any help but I saw a similar problem a while ago 
with Eudora that seemed to occur after an OS update. �Via the web interface 
the attachments were fine but when the users downloaded the attachments the 
files were corrupt. 

The solution, after a great deal of pain and testing turned out to be to 
upgrade the firmware in the NAT box (Linksys BESFR41).
