We only use the web interface with the KillerWebMail template. I checked all the preferences and cannot find a way to turn off read receipts, or set to prompt. Am I missing something?

So your end user needs to turn off read receipts, or set them to prompt. If you are convinced the email client is not sending receipts, look for a "vacation.ima" or a "main.inf" in the user's folder on the server to see if the vacation message or info manager is enabled.
