You mean that someone can wittingly forge the header content?
Yes, it is incredibly easy to do! You don't even need special software: just tell your mail client you are [EMAIL PROTECTED], and voila! you've forged the headers.
In principle, this is possible, but this is the real crime. I'm not sure that this the best way to send
spam.
Anyone knows something similar?

I would say that at least 99% of the spam I see has forged headers.

Almost all spammers have their own special software to send spam, and it creates whatever headers the spammers want. Open relays do not check for valid headers (after all, how can they know the headers are forged?). Spammers do not need a leased line or dedicated IP. If you were familiar with the anti-spam industry, you would know that most spammers now use zombies to send their spam.
