I remember this discussion a long time ago but can't seem to find it.
Does anyone know of a problem disabling short file name creation with Imail/Declude/F-Prot(32bit)/Sniffer?
Yes.
You can *only* disable short file names if you are 100% sure that 100% of the applications on your server do not require short file names. F-Prot requires short file names to be enabled. One of the many tasks of Declude Virus is to convert the filename from a long filename to a short filename, so that F-Prot can scan it. But if you disable short filenames, F-Prot won't be able to scan it.
Disabling short file names is something that should only be done in a handful of rare cases.
