I guess I would separate Imail into two distinct applications in this case.
Imail the email server does not do anything to web addresses. If a message
contains an address, Imail the email server doesn't touch it. 

Imail the web mail application is indeed converting the entire message to
HTML. When it finds a web address, it does try to convert it to a link.

It is quite possible that Imail the web mail application could handle
addresses better. I would report that to Ipswitch as a bug and/or feature
request.
