Records should be fine.
We did about 1.8 million emails in the last couple of months with no problems.
This just started a few hours ago.

The log only reports "mx error"

Most of the time, aol.com and rr.com may block because there is no PTR record. Do you have PTR records for the server you are sending from? What are your SMTP logs saying when you connect to AOL?

Suddenly we can not email aol.com, rr.com and others but many or most I should say still works.

Can telnet to port 25 from other servers we have but not the mail server.

could this be SPF related?

I am little lost, the only think I see in the log files are mx errors.
