What we found was that to have internally subscribable/unsubscribable and secure fixed lists it is what we had to do. The difficulty comes when trying to balance maintaing/posting to the list. You can create a list that is private/member only posting/with no subscriptions allowed on your primary domain. If the employee is not on the list then they can not post to the list.

 

To make a list private/member only posting/with no subscriptions allowed do the following.

 

On the Security tab

 set Allow Postings by - Subscribers

 check Disallow subscriptions

 check Disable List command

 

And that should do it!

 

Problems with doing it this way

  1) All lists need to be manually maintained

  2) Only members that are part of the list can post to the list

  3) If you relax the Allow postings by to Anyone then spammers can also send to the list

 

So now we are back to using a private non-publically accessable domain name which can be left open and private at the same time.

Any reason why it doesn't work for the external though? - From the Admin Console it seems that what I want to do, shouldn't be hard?!!!

 

Just seems like a bit of a cop-out to create a only internal MX record and tell users to use this.....Though I can definitely see how this would work :)

Create an internal domain only, for example mail.impart.internal. Set up your internal DNS to support it with MX and Arecords. Then use that domain for your lists.

 

It is what we do and it works great.

Hello,

 

I can't seem to get our internal lists to be just internal......

 

If I choose the security option for the list and select "Subscribers" it blocks internet mail accounts, which is what I want.  But it also blocks local users too.

 

I've tried adding the email addresses to the "Subscribers" list (seemed logical), but nothing....Does the service require a restart (it didn't for blocking external addresses in the first place)??
