Hello,

Am hoping that someone out there may be able to point me to a source of info
on what the marketshare is of various mail servers on the internet? It would
be ideal if there was something like Netcraft's survey of web servers.

The reason for my request is because I have this client who has installed a
document imaging system that sends e-mails through our server, and the
manufacturer is claiming that the reason this gizmo is not working properly
is because we are not running MS Exchange, which they suggest is the
"standard" for all mail servers.

This client has at most around a dozen employees and an IT budget of $200
per month, and I am trying to justify telling the client that these guys are
nuts for ever suggesting that they/we install Exchange. The copier installer
at first told me that I needed to change the settings of our mail server to
open relay, so that they could get the thing to work. You can just guess my
reaction to that one. Apparently, the machine doesn't do any type of SMTP
AUTH at all. Unfortunately, the client doesn't seem to know who to trust in
this case. Thanks much.
