Many of you have posted information detailing the many free and low-cost
options for full featured Email systems. Among those detailed, are versions
that will run on Windows.

By now it should be quite apparent to all that the 'email system' market
that Ipswitch once enjoyed profit in, is now deteriorating since the
introduction and proven reliability of these free and low-cost solutions.

As a holder of a valid service agreement, Ipswitch is obligated to provide
me with support, updates and upgrades until the day my agreement expires.
Nothing more. Nothing less. There is nothing implicit in the agreement
that states they will be there for me in the years to come.

Even when my agreements do expire, despite my disappointment, I've got very
nice, already paid for, stable, unlimited user servers that do the job just
fine for some time to come. Even better when you use 3rd party tools like
our own mxGuard, Computer Horizon's Declude, or the recently touted free
hook to SpamAssassin.

Some of the folks complaining about Ipswitch are still running 6.x servers.
I imagine they, as well as those of us on 7.x and 8.x will still get pretty
good usage out of the software for some time to come.

The pain will come however, when we wish to expand and no more licenses can
be obtained (hold on to them, they might be worth something :) - If IMail
is not back on the market as a stand-alone product, the platform change will
inevitably become a necessity.

It is my hope IMail will be offered again some months down the road. Maybe
they can be more profitable if they also charged a per issue or even per
minute fee for support after the initial 30 days. instead of a blanket
unlimited telephone support as it is now.

Anyway, I guess we will be among the few still running IMail in the coming
year - waiting for their return :)

BTW - You can get a lot more mileage from your now 'obsolete' IMail platform
by offloading the outbound mail delivery to a quality mail exchanger like
Postfix. Len Conrad has an excellent resource at http://imgate.meiway.com/
