Totally agree...I haven't seen any of the attacks mentioned by Joseph Mann and David Karp.
What I have seen is a distinct failure to respond to the legitimate concerns of their customer base regarding the exorbitant cost of a forced crossgrade to a product with features not desired by most customers on this list. Personally, I have been waiting and hoping for Ipswitch to make the smart move, do some damage control, and come back with a plan for allowing continued unbundled purchase of IMail for those that need it and would not otherwise purchase an Ipswitch product. We have several customers with IMail servers, and have been holding off on telling them of this debacle to give Ipswitch that time. However, if no statement is forthcoming, then we will be forced to tell them and make plans in the next few months to move them to a mail platform on which they can be reasonably assured of future updates and bug fixes without being forced into a crossgrade more than twice the cost of the original product. While a migration can be costly to them in support and training of their internal personnel, it is certainly less expensive than the crossgrade. IPSwitch Wow, I don't see any personal attacks in my message at all. I see an attack on Ipswitch. That is exactly who I intended to attack. I DID mention Jill's name, because I know she is reading these messages and ignoring them except to pop in with sales pushes, but I certainly didn't attack her. Ipswitch needs to be attacked, because you just don't dump your current core customers in order to go after someone else's, and you ESPECIALLY don't do it without notice. It is bad business practice and Ipswitch needs to feel the repercussions of that. They have taken a product with outstanding service agreements, renamed it, thrown in super-expensive, buggy 3rd-party software and multiplied the cost tenfold. They then claim that the outstanding service agreements are still valid, but they are mostly useless (since a portion of the cost for those is for MAJOR upgrades and there will be none). They also claim that you CAN still upgrade to ICS from Imail, but NOT for the life of your service agreement, only until end-of-year. That is deceptive and deserving of attack. For all their excuses, I have yet to see a reasonable explanation of why Imail will no longer be offerred on its own. -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Joseph Mann Sent: Thursday, October 28, 2004 1:33 PM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: RE: [IMail Forum] Heads Up ... IPSwitch What's up with the personal attacks! Being a previous Ipswitch employee, as some of you may recognize my name; I can personally attest that Ipswitch is not an evil company out to get every single one of you. Actually higher up Ipswitchee's are intelligent, educated, down to earth folks. I think what you may be seeing is that IMail is not as profitable as it once was. If this is the case, what do you do? Increase price, bundle other products together, who knows? It's very easy for us to judge not knowing all of the facts; we don't know what the ROI from an Ipswitch point of view is. Constructive disagreement is great, it's what builds innovation. Please, let's stop the personal attacks and get back to a professional level. IPSwitch This is exactly what needs to happen. We need to get this story out. It needs to be publicized so that Ipswitch sees that their reputation is going to suffer from this decision. We need to get it all over the internet so that whenever anyone searches for "Ipswitch ICS" they get the story of how Ipswitch abandoned its own customers to go after someone else's. As I see it, Ipswitch is just ignoring us while reading every single email to the list (isn't that right, Jill?). They're popping in now and then with sales pushes and with the occasional bit of spin, but it is obvious that they have chosen to ignore us. We on the list are probably a small portion of their customer base, and as long as we keep it on this list we aren't making them feel the consequences of their decision. This story needs to be public. Ipswitch, this means WAR! (well, at least WarFTP instead of WS-FTP Server) Post this story to any tech site you know! -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Larry Craddock Sent: Thursday, October 28, 2004 12:33 PM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: [IMail Forum] Heads Up ... IPSwitch Anyone seen this? http://www.joelonsoftware.com/items/2004/10/26.html I'm thinking IPSwitch might want to reconsider their decision. Then again, what do I care? I've already decided to move to another product. I really don't care to rely on a company who would seriously consider, much less implement, a policy like this.
