My guess: The remote domain is running an antispam application. The sender domain or your IP is in their blacklist and it just drops your connection.
It happens to one of my clients a while ago. It took us a while to figure that out.

I'm having trouble sending e-mail to several domains for some reason. I've talked to the people on the receiving end, and they say that their mail server isn't recording any connections in their server log at all. Here is a snip from our server logs of a transaction to one of the servers we're not able to send to.
We’re able to send and receive normally to most other people, though, so I’m not sure why these connections aren’t going through.

Anyone have any ideas? I've applied all of the updates to iMail and we're at version 8.13.
