I've been using it much as well. Important with this tool is that you really need to know what you are doing. This thread originally started with the fact that William van Hefner was receiving Plaxo requests from unknown contacts.
Plaxo supports sending your contacts e-mails, and supports searching your mail for contacts that have sent you many e-mails. Therefore William probably started to receive these requests because he posts many messages on this or other forums, and Plaxo users that do not know how to use the product start sending him invitations (instead of making sure only "known users" are sent a message) because the product sees he (William) has sent that user many e-mails (through the forum)... About whether it is a method gathering addresses: yes, quite sure it is - but I am getting so much spam, of which 99% is filtered using Imail, Declude and Outlook 2003 Anti-SPAM, I wouldn't really notice more...and the functionality of Plaxo is useful enough for me to not care about it...
