Use file splitter to split the file into more manageable sections and then
delete what you don't need. It says that the split parts are not supposed to
be opened individually but I use it for Imail log files frequently to keep
the log file size under 100MB...Just copy the file and use file splitter to
work with the copy and not the original.

In the same "too big" area, my Eudora expanded a heavily updated .mbx file 
to be 3.x GB.  I can't delete because I need some messages in there.  If 
anybody knows how to work with such a file, lemme know.   nothing I have 
can open it without an error.
