Subject: RE: [IMail Forum] IMail
Returning Messages When Connection Down
Jeffery,
Actually IMail cannot get DNS responses, so it is not finding the Host
and so reports this error and returns the mail it cannot deliver. My bet is
that you do not have a DNS on the local network or you told IMail (and/or the
computer it runs on) to use the DNS at your ISP. So when that connection goes
out, IMail won't even be able to "hold" the mail....

Have an IMail server that is returning messages to users
when the Internet connection is down with a Unknown Host error. IMail is
set to attempt delivery every 30 minutes for 2 days. If the
connection is up, the messages go through without a problem.
I'm guessing the Unknown Host is a result of it not being
able to resolve the receiving domain, but this could be a normal
situation if the Internet connection is
down.
