There were a few domains like rr.com and hotmail.com that were rejecting
us because when the mail server would connect it would read thecashstore.com
but the a record said mail.cottonwoodfinancial.com.

are you sure of that? actually, it's not clear what you're saying.

Are you saying your Imail server was rejected because it's HELO hostname didn't match a PTR hostname? I really doubt rr and ms do that.

  I went ahead and
swapped the 2 domains around in the registry, from the virtual001 to the
main and that seemed to work for everything but AOL.  They're saying that
they don't accept mail from IPs that solicit junk or bulk mail.

"solicit" or "send" ? how does an IP solicit spam?

  But I've
talked to AOL postmasters who say that our IP isn't on any kind of blacklist
or blocking list.  So that's still unresolved.

make sure your Imail's IP(s) all have single PTR hostnames, and each of those hostnames has an A record whose IP field that matches the Imail IP.
