Correct, I forgot to mention that part. However, even that has an exception. The OEM provider can move it to another computer if the original computer experiences a failure within the OEM’s warranty period and can not be fixed and is instead replaced. Been there done that.

OEM stays with the computer, dies with the computer.  You are not allowed to transfer an OEM license to another computer.  Retail Boxed, Open License, etc. you are allowed to transfer between computers.

Upgrade. The difference between OEM and Full version is support. Full version comes with installation and a short period of support from Microsoft.

Question. A pc comes with 95,98,or W2k installed from the pc manufacturer. That is an OEM license.

When that person wants to upgrade to XP, would they purchase an upgrade under open license agreement or would they need to purchase a full?
