The account on our server that was being abused tossed over 100,000 messages in a 24 hour period (1 msgs/sec average). Also, I usually know something's not right when our monitoring system starts paging me telling me SMTP is down on our IMail servers. I rarely get pages anymore on our IMail servers. The ONLY time it's happened in the past year are when the spool piles up and the SMTP connections are full.
