Thank you Scott, let me run this by you just to make sure I understand what you said....is the following correct?

Boral.com MX needs to be changed to gateway.boral.com

gateway.boral.com host record needs to point to 207.100.51.6 (mail frontier external IP)

mail.boral.com host record needs to be changed to 207.100.51.46 (imail external IP)
207.100.51.46 needs pointer to mail.boral.com

Correct.

The one drawback that I can think of is that some spammers may send to mail.boral.com (either because they cached the entry longer than they should have, or because they guessed that mail.boral.com would be the primary mailserver for boral.com).

This way, when mail goes out, it announces itself as mail.boral.com [207.100.51.46] and when the recipient server does a rdns lookup, it finds mail.boral.com and the host record matches. When mail comes in, the sending server does an MX lookup on boral.com, finds gateway.boral.com, does a host lookup on that, finds 207.100.51.6, connects to mail frontier, delivers the mail, and quits, transaction complete.

Correct. And when IMail announces itself as mail.boral.com, the remote mailserver will see that mail.boral.com has an A record pointing back to the IMail server, so everything should be good.
