Julie,
I am sorry for the serious delay of about....... ohhhh 5 days or so
!! I have not been in my office till this morning.

TOOLS > EMAIL ACCOUNTS (services in office 2000) > select the e-mail account
in question > Properties > More Settings > Advanced >

In this area of the E-mail settings you will see 4 tabs on the top,
one is the Advanced tab. Inside here you will see your ports for POP3 or
SMTP etc... At the bottom there is an option to

"Leave a copy of messages on the server" ( followed up by )
"Remove from server after XX days"
"Remove from server when deleted from Deleted Items"

If the client wants to leave messages on the server, hey no problem
at all... let them, but make sure you have them UNCHECK the "Remove from
server when deleted from deleted items" That has cleared up all my worries
about this issue with some serious e-mail hogs!

Rob,
I rarely have time to follow this forum the way I would like. I've
encountered this problem but didn't know there was a setting that could
unchecked. Can you give me a quick reference on how find this setting?

I always knew it was client side, but never had a clear answer on how to
resolve it. Except, to tell customers not to check mail less than every
2 minutes.
Thanks,
Julie

Evan,
We have had a couple customers have the same issue as well,
although it sounded like an issue from the client's point of view with
our server it actually turned out to be the client side.

In Outlook ensure that the box "delete from server when emptied
from trash" is NOT checked. I suspected this might be the case on our
issue, and when I looked I found the client side had over 1800 messages
in the trash can, and once I unchecked that setting no duplicates were
ever received again.

Although once you check this I would recommend closing outlook,
waiting a minute or so, then re opening outlook and allowing it to
process.

        Hope this helps !

Regards,

Rob

I have a customer that has their email set to leave a copy on the server
and

delete after 4 days. They are using Outlook and almost everytime they
check
email they get their messages again and have duplicates of them.

I checked their settings and no one else seems to be having this
problem.
