The  question  is why should/would someone use their list when filtering
e-mail?

The answer is when their listing philosophy matches yours.

I could create a list of all domains containing the letter "E" or a list
of  all  odd numbered IP addresses and make them available for others to
use.

Should  someone  use  those lists? No, they'd be fools to do so but that
shouldn't  infringe  on  my  right  to create those lists and claim that
they're useful.
