We use the OpenLDAP as the "company address list". You can define additional fields with a different LDAP editor, we've added fax number.
You'll miss the GroupWise address book. Especially the shared address books if you use them.
Didn't miss GW calendering much.
GroupWise client was missed by some over Outlook Express. Other preferred OE.
Imail web mail much preferred over GroupWise web mail.
Unfortunately nothing got along with Groupwise. Much better application integration with Outlook/OE.
I think the SMTP engine is a bit slicker. My GroupWise SMTP would crash on some odd Chinese e-mails.
I use Declude for virus and spam. It's nice to have it integrated rather than a separate gateway. GroupWise spam filter was non-existant.
Groupwise server was pretty solid here. I did have continual db corruption with my GroupWise Remote clients. Now I have folder corruption with my OE clients.

Former GW 5.5 user here. Made the switch to Imail in September 04.

Subject: [IMail Forum] Global address book

I am strongly thinking of using Imail for my company.  In the white paper for ICS it states it has a global address list.  Can anyone tell me how it compares to what you have in Exchange?  Does ICS allow for first name, last name, phone number, dept/agency  email address, or is it limited to only name and email address? < I have outside agencies info to import> I'm having a really hard time thinking what Exchange will cost versus using Imail's ICS.  I'm looking at 500+ users 24/7 and growing.  Mainly I really wanting the shared calendaring and global address book features.
Currently we are using groupwise 5.5.  So if ICS can give me similar functionality or better great.  If not I guess it's paying $$$ and going with Exchange.

Thanks,
Dave Davis
