The way I handle it here works for me, but may not be the best solution...

Our Barracuda and IMail server both reside within our DMZ.

The firewall is set to send all port 25 traffic for our outside MX record to
xxx.xxx.xxx.001 within the DMZ (Barracuda)
All port 110 traffic is aimed at xxx.xxx.xxx.002 (IMail).

I used to have our IMail server set as MX20, but we were being flooded with
SPAM thru that conduit. I still have a MX 20 record, but we have commented
out the NAT statement in the firewall. In the event the Barracuda dies, we
will manually add the NAT statement for the IMail server.

This has worked well for us for about a year - our situation is a bit
different, we are a corporate user with all of our locations linked by WAN
or VPN connections. Outside users either VPN to us or use webmail.

Subject: [IMail Forum] Need Help Preventing Connections

Hey All,

We have a Barracuda Firewall in front of our Imail server and I want to
setup Imail so that only Authenticated users and the Barracuda can connect
to Imail and send messages. How do I go about setting this up in Imail? Do
I need to Deny Access to everyone except my barracuda in the Control Access
area in SMTP security? Does that still allow my users to authenticate and
send messages?

Thanks all for any help. I am just trying to stop all the DOS Attacks we
have been getting.

Thanks,
Grant Griffith
